Gallery North, Artists’ Book Fair Events, June - July 2010

Artists’ Book Fair, Gallery North 26 June, 11 - 5pm. Gallery North presents national and international Artist’s Book Makers to the region to sell and promote their work directly to the public. An accompanying series of drop in workshops and demonstrations will also take place. www.northumbria.ac.uk/gallerynorth
12-1.30pm 24 Minute Comic with Illustrator & Comic Artist Leonie O’Moore
2-4pm Print your own hand made book with established Visual Artist Victoria Paisley.
12-4pm Demonstrations in hand-sewn head bands, gold tooling and stitching.

15 June - 5 July, Newcastle's Lit & Phil will be hosting an exhibition of Artists' Books from the University of West of England (UWE) Centre for Fine Print Research. This collection brings together a broad spectrum of Artist’s Books including hand-made, commercially printed and sculpted paper engineering works. Sarah Bodman, Research Fellow in Artist’s Books at UWE has kindly loaned the books on display in the glass cabinets. A recent teaching visit to Beijing 2007 has brought about a touring exhibition of books produced by students & lecturers at the CAFA (Central Academy of Fine Art). This collection will be on display during the Artists’ Book Fair at Gallery North and will be on show at 25sg, Newcastle 20th June during which time visitors will have the chance to handle the work and take part in a 'Show & Tell' event with other artist's book makers. A series of artist books that explore issues that surround the space in architecture, ‘Building Blocks’ by Perera, will accompany the exhibition. Yvette Hawkins makes tactile, engaging and textural sculptures and installations that transform everyday useable and familiar materials into objects that explore suggestion and secrecy. To coincide with Gallery North Artist's Book Fair Yvette Hawkins' solo show 'All the books I have never finished' will be showing at The Gallery of Wonder, Newcastle University until 9 July 2010.
